How to take care of your corsetry.- Before wearing, corsets should be aired laying flat or hung by the laces over the top of a chair with the halves of the corset on either side.
- Corsets should dry cleaned only by a specialist.
- If this is not possible, wash by hand in warm water with a mild, non-biological degtergent.
- Never use a washing machine. Corsets are put under a lot of stress and any deterioration will vastly reduce the garments life span.
- Rinse well in running cold water
- Wrap in a towel and pat gently to remove as much moisture as possible.
- Do not wring or squeeze the corset.
- Dry naturally as you would any other hand wash garment, either flat or on a rail hung in half by the corset laces
- NEVER place near a heat source at any time. Modern corset boning is made of a cobination of steel flats and spirals. These can warp and will cause unnatural shaping and distortion of the garment.
- Corsets should not be washed frequently. Modern steel corsetry boning maybe stainless, however it will exhibit some corrosion over time and the oxidisation of the metal will eventually stain the garment material.
- Once dry, store flat or hang in half by the lacing and keep away from sunlight, especially direct sunlight. Long term exposure to ultraviolet light can cause fading of delicate colouration.
- Never roll a corset up for storage.
